Summary

The Cryopod in ARK: Survival is an item used to store tames (creatures) by freezing them into an "ice cube" state. These stored creatures don't count towards the tribe's creature limit.

To use a Cryopod, players equip an empty Cryopod, aim it at a creature, and hold it for a few seconds. The captured creature behaves like an item, stopping its food consumption. The Cryopod can be transported in a player or creature's inventory, facilitating mass transport of creatures.

Cryopods start discharging once created, with a 30-day decay period. They can be recharged using a Cryofridge or Tek Sleeping Pod. If not recharged before zero charge, the Cryopod becomes dead, and any creature inside dies permanently.

Players can use Cryopods to:

  • Transfer aquatic tames via air or fast land runners.
  • Transport large land tames that can't be picked up by certain creatures like Quetzals.
  • Move multiple tames in one journey, useful for navigating difficult terrain.
  • Store and protect weak tames, or strong tames for strategic purposes.
  • Solve in-game bugs or remove unwanted creatures.

However, there are limitations:

  • Certain conditions prevent the release of a creature from a Cryopod, such as insufficient space, water-based deployment requirements for aquatic creatures, and server or tribe creature limits.
  • Un-Cryopodding a creature gives it Cryo Sickness for 5 minutes, making it unconscious and vulnerable to increased damage.
  • Items in a creature's inventory drop when they are Cryopodded, except for saddles and certain modules.
  • Ownership of a creature changes to the individual who releases it from the Cryopod.
  • Baby creatures in Cryopods have their imprint timer and food consumption paused.
  • Females in Cryopods continue their mating interval countdown.
  • Creatures in Cryopods gain passive experience.
  • Some creatures and placed vehicles cannot be stored in Cryopods.
